2019 March Lookback

April 1, 2019

I can’t believe we’re a quarter of the way through the year already! Time really does start to fly as you get older, but I guess it’s also a sign that you are having fun right? That being said, I don’t feel like I’ve really done anything amazing, or all that noteworthy this month. I guess we all have quiet months every now and again though don’t we.

Whilst it did and still doesn’t seem to be bothering him in the slightest, the lump on Boot’s neck has almost doubled in size, so a trip to the vet was in order. It’s turned out to be a cyst, but fortunately the vet has assured us that it won’t cause him any harm, but that it should be removed if it grows or starts to cause him any pain.

As it is still getting larger, we’ve decided to have it removed sooner rather than later. The older he gets, the more risky an operation under anaesthetic gets, and if its already grown there nothing to say it won’t continue to do so. It also worries me that he’ll catch it when with his claws when he scratches or something.

We’ve not had his cat flap fitted yet, so it makes sense to do it before he’s allowed to go back outside. Afterall, it seems a bit mean to give him that freedom, only to take it away again for bed rest!

Sadly this means our poor fur-baby will be going in for an operation. I’m just waiting for my holiday year to refresh so I can take some time off to look after and spoil him.

In a previous post I talked about three challenges I was setting myself to be kinder to myself in March. My first challenge was to maintain my Monday night Yoga sessions, to help with my back pain. The second challenge was to start reading again, and to complete a book by the end of the month. Then the final March challenge was to have a mini pamper on each Sunday to treat myself.

I won’t delve too far into these, as I’d quite like to do a catchup post letting you know how things went, as well as setting some new challenges. What I will say however is that I really enjoyed it, and did find it to be pretty beneficial to my mood.

You may have seen I had a bit of a slump in the middle of the month, but actually found that writing down some of the positive things going on was a huge help. I’ve made sure I have things to look forward to in April, and my mood has lifted again.

The beginning of the month ticked along quite nicely, with trips to the cinema and the odd night out. In the middle of the month things took a slight turn, in which a friend of mine ended up staying with us for a couple of days. All is sorted now, and we were back to normal by the end of the month. To be honest, in a way I found living with a ‘housemate’ again to be quite nostalgic!

One of the ladies at work is getting married soon, so we put together a little work hen for her. Being on a Thursday night, it wasn’t ever going to be a mad night of drinking to the early hours, but it was great fun all the same. We played all the typical hen party games, and went for a lovely meal together, and then got to throw some shapes on the dance floor. I made sure to find her a ‘special’ mug to drink out of for the evening, and we had a great time.

I mentioned back in January some problems around a suspected heart condition, as well as random weight loss. My weight has stabilised again, which has taken some stress away. I still haven’t had my appointment to wear a heart monitor, which is really frustrating, especially as the holdup has stemmed from moving house and changing doctors, apparently the new one is a little inefficient... I had another regular ECG with my new doctor because they wanted to do their own, and it was pretty much the same as before, showing that the previous wasn’t a fluke. There will no diagnosis until after I wear a monitor, but from lengthy discussions with my doctor and cardiology, it’s looking really likely that its some form of arrhythmia.

Whilst I’m clearly not thrilled at the prospect of having a heart condition, it does set me somewhat at ease that it looks like they know what the problem is. At least that way, I can get whatever treatment is needed to fix the problem, so I am feeling a little more positive about it.

All in all its been an alright month, but its been a pretty great first quarter, even if it has absolutely flown by!
