Too Faced Christmas

December 8, 2018

Those that know me well, will know that I’m a big kid at heart. I love celebration and festivities of any kind, but I especially love Christmas. So naturally, the moment I saw the Too Faced Christmas range go live, I knew I just had to get my hands on some of it!

I didn’t go overboard and get absolutely everything (my bank account said no) however, I did manage to get a pretty decent haul, so grab a cuppa and lets dive into what I got…

Melted Matte Gingerbread Man and Gingerbread Girl - £19.00 each. If you follow my Instagram, you’ll know I’m quite a fan of the melted matte lippies, the formula and wear power is simply second to none. Gingerbread man was around last Christmas, but Gingerbread girl is brand new this year. As I quit my job and went traveling for the months around Christmas last year, I was in money saving mode and so didn’t get the Gingerbread man lippy – something I regretted when I saw all the lovely swatches and what a stunning shade it is!

So this year, I decided to treat myself, and make up for last year, so not only did I buy the lippy I’d been pining for last year, but I also brought its sister shade.

Both are true to the melted matte formula I’ve come to know and love, with beautiful pigment and fantastically long wear time. Both are lovely warm shades, with Gingerbread Girl being intended as a slightly deeper, richer version of Gingerbread Man. I was a little worried that they would be more or less the same, and whilst they are similar (which you would expect with them being variations of gingerbread) they are still very different, and look different once applied.

The Sweet Smell of Christmas - £22.00. From the moment I saw these, I knew I just had to have them! These four beautiful Christmas shades are smaller than the typical melted matte, and you get slightly less than half of a full size melted matte lipstick.

From their beautiful packaging, to their absolutely delicious scents, these would be the perfect gift to a loved one, or a present to yourself! Much like the Gingerbread lipsticks, they are identical in formula to the standard melted matte lippies, other than the gorgeous smell of course. They apply well, and don’t look cakey when reapplied, not that you need to, as they last all day unless you eat something oily or greasy in which case they’ll need a minor touch up.

Something to consider though, if you are looking to buy the set for just one or two shades in the pack, I’d suggest it may be worth checking out the normal range first. When I first saw this online, I did think that Cinnamon Bear looked very much the same as Lady Balls. When I got them both side by side, it was clear that whilst they are not identical, they are very similar.

Once applied, Cinnamon Bear did come out darker and deeper. When it came to me doing my photos for this post, when I had most of my melted matte lipsticks out in front of me, I also noticed that Sugar Cookie has a striking resemblance to Cool Girl as well. Again, it is different once applied, but not so much that you couldn’t have one or the other which was a little disappointing.

I’ve included a photo of the four shades without a filter side by side, so you can draw your own conclusion, but I would say the set is still very much worth buying. Hot buttered Rum, and my favourite, Pumpkin Spice are absolutely stunning shades, and all four smell divine, which you’d miss out on with the regular range.

Gingerbread Spice Eyeshadow Palette - £39.00. What can I say, I have an infatuation with palettes and this one is absolutely stunning, and I’ve used it almost every day since getting it. It’s really no surprise that it sold out as quickly as it did, and I’m half wishing I had another one as I can see myself hitting pan quite rapidly.

One thing I noted, was that it doesn’t really smell that strongly of Gingerbread like you would expect from the name and packaging. It almost reminds me of the Sweet Peach palette, and is a light, sweet, almost vanilla like scent with a very slight undertone of spice, which I guess is the gingerbread sneaking its way through. It’s not a negative for me, as it still smells lovely, I just expected a different scent.

The shades are all beautiful, and perfect for both Autumn and Christmas, with a mix of autumnal and festive shades. There is a good mix of matte, shimmer and glitter, making for a very versatile palette. You can easily put together a subtle look for work, or mix it up with the lovely pink, orange and glitter shades for something bright festive. All of the shades are wonderfully pigmented, and blend easily, which is exactly what you want. As I said before, the only downside with getting this palette, was that I only got one!!

As you’ve probably gathered, I was extremely pleased with all of my purchases from the Christmas collection, and aside from the minor gripe of similar shades to the existing line in the Sweet Smell of Christmas set, I didn’t feel disappointed or let down in the slightest. If anything, I wish I’d brought duplicates of the set as I’m totally in love with Pumpkin Spice. Here’s hoping they release full size versions next year so I can snap a few up.

Whilst a lot of the items are going in and out of stock, there’s still time to get your hands on them, so head over to the Too Faced store, or Debenhams and grab yourself some lovely Christmasy goodies!

Did you get anything from the range? What did you think?
