April Birchbox - Cath Kidston

April 24, 2018

I'll start off by saying that the exterior of this box is absolutely beautiful. I'm a fan of Cath Kidston, and it really is a pleasure to look at. Better yet, we've all been given a discount code to use with Cath Kidston, so naturally I've already started eyeing up what to get on payday...

Sadly, beyond the pretty design of the box, I can't say I've been really 'Wow'd' by this months box.

ModelCo Baked Blush - Frose - R.R.P £24. This was actually somewhat of a disappointment upon initially opening up my box. It's tiny. I know its sample sized, so I wasn't expecting it to be huge, but it really is very small.

The multi-tone formula has been baked to create a weightless powder that glides onto the skin for a natural flush of colour. I have to say, it is very easy to apply, but has a lot of shimmer and very little colour, so I would say its more of a highlighter than a blush. I probably wouldn't wear it for something like work, but it's perfect for a night out, or a summery look when out in the sun - now that we finally seem to be getting some!

Beautaniq Beauty Fill + Tame Brow Gel - Brunette - R.R.P £8.60. For me, brows are an important feature in my overall look. I'm lucky to have naturally dark brows that are fairly well shaped, so they just need a little bit of infill for stronger definition. All this product seemed to do was darken the brows I already have, which considering mine are almost black anyway seemed pointless to be honest. Although if I had light brows, it would have probably been alright.

It didn't really do anything to fill in sparse areas without looking overdone and unnatural, and without a more precise brush it was hard to work with so for me is pretty useless. I also don't think this is waterproof or particularly long lasting. The evening I wore it, I got brown smudges on my fingers every time I touched my brows, which for me is a massive turn off. I mean who wants their brows melting off their face half way through the day?! That's right, no one.

Lumene Nordic C (Valo) Overnight Bright Sleeping Cream - R.R.P £22.50. This anti-oxidant rich formula, packed with cloudberry seed extract, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid to work together and retain the skins natural moisture levels. This means complexion should be left balanced and refreshed.

My usual moisturiser (Nuxe) is pretty lightweight, so I found the cream to be a little heavy on application, and needed a little more work blending in. Even a little while after application, I could feel the product sitting on my skin, which I wasn't a big fan of.

Whilst my face did feel moisturised the following morning, it also felt far more greasy than normal. I even had to double cleanse to get my skin feeling clear again, which I never need to do in the mornings. That said, it has cleared up some dry patches, so it clearly works. I think I'd use this product every now and then, for fear that regular use will cause me to break out.

Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow Illuminator - R.R.P £25.50.  In addition to being hypoallergenic, the formula is free from  gluten, perfume, and oil, making it perfect for those with sensitive skin. Thanks to tiny flecks of light reflecting pigments, this cream leaves a smooth dewy finish on the skin.

I found the formula to have low level coverage, and the longevity isn't great. I can't say I'm one for a 'dewy' finish either, as I much prefer matte. So this isn't really one for me. At most, I'd probably use over the top of my Estee Lauder Double Wear to highlight for a more summery look, but other than that this is probably destined for the 'never use' draw.

Cath Kidston Hand Cream - R.R.P £4.00. This is by far my favorite item in this months box. It doesn't moisturise or sink into the skin as effectivly as my go-to Crabtree and Evelyn collection, but when you consider it costs double for half the quantity with C&E its probably a little unfair to compare them.

Fragranced with zesty fruit, white flowers, sandalwood and sweet caramel, this cream smells absolutely amazing, without being too overwhelming.  It doesn't sink into the skin as quickly as I would like, but once it has, there isn't any residue left behind, which for me is a plus, as I hate products that leave me with slick or greasy hands.

I can honestly say that there wasn't a single item in this months box that I would purchase, other than maybe the hand cream if I was already placing an order for something else, which is a huge disappointment. I've been finding more and more of late that this is happening, or that I only like one or two products out of the five we get, which feels like a bit of a waste of money.

I'll see how the next few pan out, but I'm now contemplating looking for a replacement subscription box.... if anyone has any suggestions on boxes to try, pop them in the comments for me to have a look!
